The people serving in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are, like all of us, not immune to COVID-19. Now, the SAF has adopted further measures to mitigate the threat from the virus to to its personnel.

According to the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), SAF personnel continue to perform critical functions such as island defence, the protection of key installations, maritime security and air defence operations. These operations take place around-the-clock.

The enlistment of NS personnel for basic military training also continues with the enlistment conducted in smaller batches, although guests have not been invited to witness the enlistment.

As for non-essential functions and activities, MINDEF has either deferred them, reduced the scale of the training, or added measures to ensure social distancing.

The IPPT requirements for affected NSmen have also been waived. The conduct of IPPT, IPPT Prep Training and Remedial Training at all Fitness Conditioning Centres (FCCs), SAFRA Gyms, and IPT-in-the-park locations, have been suspended.

These measures are in place until 30 April 2020 and may be extended if there are no improvements to the COVID-19 situation.
