Residents of a Beach Road HDB flat were left shocked when they found raw meat being hanged out to dry on an air-con compressor vent out of a second storey residental unit. And at the first storey of a nearby block, trays of the same strip of raw meat propped up by overturned plastic stools were also left out to dry.
Investigations showed that these raw meat are being used to make meat jerky for sale, and according to reports, they were allegedly sold directly to customers form the manufacturer's home, as well as his shop located at the nearby Golden Mile Complex. These raw meats reportedly belonged to a 60 year old man, who claimed he sun-dry the meat on a daily basis.
Naturally, the unhygienic practice of sun-drying the raw meat have got the residents at the block angry and disgusted, with most complaining that they had to avoid walking along that stretch of the neighbourhood because of the stench. The raw meat also attracts flies and birds to them, which adds to the unsanitary environment. NEA is currently investigating the issue.
