Three Singaporeans who were taking part in a cosplay festival were among those to have been detained by Malaysian police over the weekend in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian authorities said the arrest of the three Singaporeans were for allegedly violating the conditions of their social visit passes.

It was widely reported in Malaysian media that the Malaysian Immigration Dept had raided the Cosplay Festival 4, which was a two-day event event taking place at Sunway Putra Hotel. A total of 12 people were detained, which also included the event organiser, a Malaysian. The rest of the 11 people were foreigners, including the three Singaporeans. All the foreigners detained were in Malaysia on social visit passes.

Apparently, the cosplay festival was held without permission from Malaysia's Central Agency for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes, or Puspal. Singapore's MFA said that they were aware of the arrests, and that they are rendering consular assistance the three affected.
