Our beloved Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has responded to Dr Tan Cheng Bock's New Year message. A few days ago, Dr Tan announced in a Facebook post that he will be retiring from medical practice.
"I tell them that retirement is not an option for me I am merely switching my role from serving patients to serving people. I always say that medicine is my love, but politics is my calling.
The country and the peoples' welfare are my top priority.
I look forward to serving Singapore in a new way in this new season of life."
Then yesterday, Goh Chok Tong wondered if the phrase "to serve my country" is too cliche and if politicians nowadays truly have good intentions in making it happen. He said: "Fathoming a person's heart beyond his words is difficult. One, therefore, must be especially sceptical of any veteran politician's practised words."
Seems like he fired a shot at Tan Cheng Bock, but if that's the case, shouldn't Singaporeans be equally sceptical of the elites and their empty promises? Does GCT really want to wish Singaporeans a Happy New Year or is he taking the chance to indirectly whack someone else?
Have more sincerity can? Old liao doesn't mean can anyhow talk. Pot calling the kettle black?
