MRT has come under fire in the past few years for the under performance of their trains and system. On Friday 14 September, MRT was in the news again, but this time, it was their escalator side panel that gave way. If SMRT are saying that they are doing their best to up their maintenance capabilities, this latest incident clearly show they are a long way away.
In the latest incident, two commuters were on a down-riding escalator at City Hall MRT Station when a side panel of the escalator dislodged and injured them. One of the injured commuter suffered a bad injury, where she had a leg wound about 8cm long and 3 to 4cm deep, and she had to undergo a two-hour surgery.
It was unknown how the side panel could have dislodged, and caused such a bad injury to those affected.
