A female redditporean posted on r/singapore today talking about her plight - a man allegedly following her home after school. She missed an announcement made by her teachers and was only told by her classmates a few days later. The man also allegedly takes photos of the students without their consent.

She has a usual route home which she takes and she always sees a man with his phone and earpiece. After hearing about the announcement, she started taking another route home. However, the same guy appeared at the new route, which scared her to death as he appeared really near to her house.

Other redditporeans quickly asked her to report it to the authorities and her parents. One redditor (likely a foreigner) advised her to get a knife/pepper spray/tasers which met many downvotes from the other netters.

How would you keep your kids safe from such "predators"?

[Serious] I think someone might be following me

Hey r/Singapore, I’m a secondary school student (F) here.

So basically, I walk home everyday from the same route. Over the past few, around 2 years, there’s this guy, he looks like he’s in his 20/30s, who was always sitting at the HDB flat ledge with his phone and earpieces in. He doesn’t seem to have a job either, because he’s sitting there EVERY DAY. Last year, a teacher actually made an announcement about this guy (which I missed) and told us to be careful. My schoolmates apparently told me about it and that he takes pictures of students. I honestly didn’t believe them, so I just kept walking there.

However, I only actually knew about the announcement yesterday. And I got really worried. So I decided to change routes. However, this new route cuts into the old route at the halfway point.

It’s been a week, I was walking home on the new route today and I SAW HIM AGAIN. And god was I scared to death. I quickly took a second detour and got home safely. The scary part is that he was walking around an area which was really close to my house.

TL;DR: Schoolmates told me there was a suspicious guy along the route I took, decided to change routes. Turns out I saw him once again, nearer to my home.

I’m planning to tell my teacher tomorrow. I haven’t told my parents and I’m not planning to. What would you guys do in this situation? I need some advice right now.
