In another blow to Singapore's air space aspirations, a proposal for Singapore's F15 fighter jets to train over New Zealand airspace on a long term basis have been cancelled. This followed a two year discussion between Singapore and New Zealand.
A December 2018 news report in New Zealand indicated that the plans were cancelled due to the excessive costs involved. The training facilities were supposed to have been located at Ohakea, in Manawatu on the North Island. While the MFA issued a statement conforming the cancellation of the proposal, they did not specify the reason for it, but did say that Singapore and New Zealand will continue to explore other opportunities to cooperate on defense and security issues.
Singapore currently have a detachment of F15s which is based at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, USA.
