A 71 year old woman passed away on 23 March, making her the third person to die from dengue fever in the first three months of the year. The woman was staying in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, which was previously an active dengue cluster.
This follows the death of two men, a 77 year old and 74 year old, in February this year also affected with dengue fever. One of the deaths occurred in the Bedok active dengue cluster, while another was at Hougang. NEA indicated that there have been 2,224 cases of dengue so far reported this year. As of Monday, NEA announced that there are 26 active dengue clusters, with the biggest being in Woodlands, Teck Whye Lane and Serangoon Gardens.
There were 5 deaths from dengue related illness last year, with those who died aged from 41 to 75 years old.
