The Singapore People's Party (SPP), formed by opposition legend, Mr Chiam See Tong, recently underwent a leadership transition, with seasoned opposition politician, Steve Chia, now leading the party as its Secretary-General.
While Mr Chiam may no longer play an active part due to his frail health, his spirit continues to inspire the new leaders.
In a recent walkabout at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 (part of Potong Pasir SMC), party stalwarts like Steve Chia, Lina Chiam, and Ariffin Sha, related how the residents they came across still remember Mr Chiam fondly. The residents also greeted them warmly.
Those residents will not forget the sincerity with which Mr Chiam served them.
That will work in favour of the new leaders in SPP. With the legacy of Mr Chiam behind them, they will prove that they live by the party's motto - 'Service before Self'.
