A netizen shared how an elderly man was hurt after falling off a stool whose seat came off as it was not secured properly.
From the photos, a man and a woman could be seen helping the old man who was on the floor. The male samaritan seemed to be applying some pressure to the elderly man's head with tissue while the female samaritan cleaned the old man's arm.
This incident took place at a hawker centre that had undergone a two-month renovation.
From the photos of the base of the stool and its disloged seat, it appears that the contractor responsible for fixing the seats was shoddy with their workmanship. Instead of ensuring that the seats were secured properly with screws, the contractor only used glue.
While the netizen did not reveal the actual location of the hawker centre, there was one who speculated that it was in Ang Mo Kio. This is unverified.
Regardless of the location, the contractor has to be held responsible for this injury. Such shoddy workmanship cannot be condoned because it is the public's money that is used to pay the contractors. They need to be answerable to the residents.
How many other stools or tables were fixed in a similarly shoddy way? What if a pregnant lady or a child gets injured?
