With the advice of the Cabinet, President Halimah Yacob granted clemency to a person convicted for the murder of Annie Leong, when he was just 15 years old. He had carried out the murder at the request of the deceased woman's husband, Anthony Ler, with whom he had been acquainted with for some time.

Ler offered the teenager $100,000 to carry out the murder. Ler was subsequently hanged following his conviction for abetting the murder of his wife.

The teenager, who is 32 years old now, will be subjected to electronic monitoring, curfew. He will also be provided with greater rehabilitative support.

 

 

An SMRT staff had to have his right foot amputated after an accident involving a maintenance vehicle on the tracks near Joo Koon MRT Station. Reports have emerged that the staff, a man in his late 50s, had his right foot crushed by the track tamping vehicle, which is used to to compact the ballast that supports the tracks.

The man, who is married with three adult children, is currently in a stable condition, although still in a state of shock, family members have confirmed. He is still warded in the ICU of the National University Hospital. The man was injured as he was preparing for the engineering vehicle to move back to the depot after completion of maintenance works when the accident happened. 

SMRT stated that they will conduct a full investigation on the accident, which is the most serious one yet since an accident on tracks in 2016 claimed the lives of two of their employees. 

A 15 year old boy is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of NUH after an accident involving his e-scooter and a bus. The accident happened on Tuesday night at the junction of Choa Chu Kang North 6 and Choa Chu Kang Link.

Police confirmed the accident, and indicated that the boy was taken conscious to the hospital. It was reported in the papers that the boy was crossing the junction in heavy rain, when he was hit. The news report also added that he suffered from liver injuries and had to be warded in the ICU. The boy's mother said that the boy was in a stable state. She also reportedly said that she disapproves of the boy using e-scooter, and that the e-scooter belonged to his friend, as the family had no such mobility devices. 

It was understood the SMRT bus that knocked the boy down was turning at the left junction, with the green light in the bus' favour. Police investigations are still ongoing. 

A man was shocked when he found cement bags and papers being used as wall fillings in the wall of the cargo lift landing at an industrial block in Ubi. The man, Mr Benedict Francis, went to block 3016 at Ubi Road 1 to run an errand there, when he saw the the wall filings.

The building was undergoing replacement works for the cargo lifts, and the fillers were left exposed due to the works done. JTC, who owns the building, said that the paper fillings did not affect the structural safety of the building, but also conceded that such practices are not accepted. The company also added that an investigation into the issue is ongoing, and should errant behaviour be found, necessary actions will be taken.

The building was built in the 1980s, and is meant for light industrial use. BCA have also investigated the incident, and indicated that the building structure is not affected, but would like to remind all builders and contractors to use appropriate construction materials as fillers.

This morning's train services between Gul Circle and Boon Lay stations on the East West Line was delayed today for both directions. SMRT released a statement saying that one of its staff was injured on the tracks while doing maintenance work in the early morning.

According to the statement, the SMRT staff suffered foot injuries near Joo Koon MRT Station while carrying our works at about 4:10am this morning. SCDF was activated and had conveyed the injured staff to the hospital. SCDF confirmed that they were activated to the incident at Joo Koon, and the affected staff was conveyed conscious to NUH in an ambulance.

It was understood the staff was a a man in his 50s, and he is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. His condition is stable, although it was not reported what exactly happened. 

In this episode of Youths Acting Up, another youth was spotted jumping on the road. Not only did he jump on the road. He proceeded to pull down his pants while standing in the middle of the road and smacked his buttocks. It appears that he was taunting the oncoming traffic. Was that really necessary? What is with youths acting up nowadays?
