A fire broke out today at Rentokil Building at Jln Mesin this morning. Many netters went online to post photos and videos of the plumes of black smoke coming from the building. Netters also claimed to have heard loud explosions coming from the building at approximately 9.30am.

Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident and responded to it at about 9.20am. On a Facebook post by them, they claimned that the fire was contained to the ground floor of the building and was working with six water jets to keep the fire at bay. Here are some of the posts on the fires by netters.

Is it a joke when the Singapore Government tells you that they accept criticisms and alternative opinions? Activist Roy Ngerng went on a written rant on his Facebook for the number of alternative news sites and personalities that have been "attacked" over the past few months.

He was frustrated that the authorities can silence them so readily. A few, such as The Online Citizen, The Independent Singapore and Leong Sze Hian face defamation charges while States Times Review and Singapore Herald had its viewership geo-blocked.

He said: "There are other individuals who have been harassed by the Singapore government who have not made public their harassment... This is the first time since Singapore's independence that the Singapore government has launched a large-scale attack on the media and journalists from Singapore."

Whatever happened to accepting criticisms or embracing different opinions? Look at what's left of our alternative voices, is this how they control every single facet of our lives?

"Is this the Singapore that you want? Is this the kind of government you want to represent you? A government which bullies others who are powerless? A government which would protect itself at any cost, while attacking powerless individuals?

You know in your heart that many of these individuals do not deserve what they are going through, that they are people who have been speaking up on our behalf...

As a citizen of Singapore, you have to exercise your right to your country and protect it.

If there is something you should get angry about, this is it."

What would you do if you got scolded "shit -insert race-" just because you bumped into someone on the bus. This youth showed us what he would do, stay calm. A video posted by one Taufiq Istafan went viral on 19 Dec 2018 showing a man scolding a youth "Shit Malay" just because the boy bumped into him. According to Taufiq, the boy apologized profusely but the man continued to scold him. He was scolding the youth so much that a onlooker had to step in.

The onlooker asked the man to stop his racist remarks to which the man replied "I only refer to him specifically (shit malay). I never said all malay what!" You can read the full post and watch the video here:

Did the man have to get so angry over such a small issue?

A taxi driver's job is to ferry you from point A to point B. Sure they might help you load your luggages on and off their taxis but that's out of their own goodwill. A taxi driver recently made a Facebook post on a Facebook Group, Singapore Taxi Drivers, to rant about his experience with a lady carrying a LV bag.

In his post, he wrote that he picked her and a primary school girl up at Alexandra, together with a 1 metre long carton box to a condo at Bukit Batok. He helped her load the box into his taxi like any helpful uncle would. Upon reaching the condo, the taxi uncle helped to load the box off his vehicle. The lady then decided to ask the taxi uncle to bring the box up to her house which he declined to do so before stepping back into his vehicle.

The lady then started to lecture him through the taxi window for not helping her. He then responded by saying that it's not his job to be her personal mover before moving off.

In the post, he also gave reasons as to why he did not help her. He mentioned that Ikea provides delivery to the doorstep. However, she decided to make use of taxi drivers as a free alternative. She had the money to carry around a luxury item such as a LV handbag yet she still wants to save money on some delivery charges.

Was the lady being unreasonable for expecting the taxi driver to help? Or is the taxi driver right? You decide.

Lim Tean, a common face in the local opposition scene, was issued a writ of summons for not repaying a US$150,000 loan. This amounts to more than S$200,000.

In Sep 2013, Chinese National Huang Min lent Lim a huge amount, to which the latter promised to repay a few months later. Unfortunately, he has reportedly failed to do so.

It is unclear why Huang lent him such a huge amount of money but some news reports have said that it is related to an iron ore business by Lim.

How will the ex-NSP politician defend himself and recover from this setback? It does not help that he has just set up a new political party called People's Voice after resigning from the National Solidarity Party last year.

Can Singaporeans continue to believe in an opposition coalition? Will we have another good alternative to turn to when we feel like the government is screwing us up?

The outlook is bleak for Singaporeans but one thing's for sure, many will not trust the arrogant incumbent. Not when they cheated Singaporeans' feelings so many times.

An ex DBS relationship manager was charged in court for allegedly making an unauthorised access on a customer's account, and transferring out more than US$102,000 to other accounts.

Liaw Tick Kwan, 37 years old, was alleged to have carried out his crime from Sept 10, 2013 to May 28, 2014, where he transferred US$83,000 from Mr Chin Tian Loke's bank account to another account belonging to Mean Chey International Investment Co. He was also found to have transferred another huge sum of money from this account to an account belonging to Ms Chou Ching Ping. It was not known what his relationship with Ms Chou was, and it was also not stated what relationship he had with the company.

Liaw is no longer with DBS since May 2014, and he will be back in court to face charges in January 2019.
