A foreign worker fell to his death on Tuesday in a bizarre accident while he was doing some painting works at the external facade of the Royal Plaza on Scotts, Singapore hotel.

The worker, an Indian national, was secured to a rope and hovering several stories above groind while carrying out his painting work. Unfortunately, the bottom of the rope became entangled with the side mirror of a passing bus, causing it to snap. As a result, the unfortunate worker fell to his death. All painting and cleaning works requiring the use of ropes have been suspended at the site. The Police and MOM are investigating the incident, including how the bus would have gone to the area where works were being carried out.

In case you missed it, Tan Cheng Bock is finally returning to politics. You can read more about it here:

Tan Cheng Bock Returns To Politics! Applied To Register A New Party, Progress Singapore Party

On 24 January 2019, brother of PM Lee, Lee Hsien Yang made a Facebook post congratulating Tan Cheng Bock and Progress Singapore Party. Lee Hsien Yang has previously also met up with Tan Cheng Bock over breakfast, which led to much speculation by netizens that Lee might join Tan in a new party.

Here is Lee Hsien Yang's post in full:

Congratulations to Tan Cheng Bock and the Progress Singapore Party. I have known Cheng Bock for many years and he has consistently put the interests of the people first. We are fortunate that he has stepped forward to serve Singapore.

I only recently learned that Cheng Bock had his first clinic at Ama Keng at the far end of Lim Chu Kang Road, a remote and poor area. I didn’t know it at the time, but this was very close to where I used to serve as a young armour officer at Sungei Gedong.

Today, Cheng Bock will groom future Parliamentarians who will serve our country and people before party or self. This is good for the future of Singapore. Cheng Bock is the leader Singapore deserves.

Are you in support of Tan Cheng Bock and Progress Singapore Party?

Actor Aloysius Pang is in very serious condition after meeting with an accident while on reservist training in New Zealand. He was doing repair works inside a self-propelled Howitzer.

In a Facebook post on 23 Jan 2019, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen updated that Pang needs to be on artificial life support for his lung, kidneys and heart. His condition has worsened despite undergoing a few surgeries. Fellow actor Dasmond Koh is reportedly accompanying him in the ICU.

"Dr Teo told me that surgeons and staff at the Waikato Hospital – a regional trauma center – are doing all they possibly can to keep up the support and improve his condition...

Even as the doctors do all they can, our prayers go to CFC (NS) Pang to turn this difficult corner, as well as to his family members for strength."

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

A father was tickled to find out that many people are shocked for his decision to support his daughter for becoming a Chinese Muslim. Chinese Muslims aren't THAT rare in our multi racial country. But we know of many parents who will be against their children's decisions to change religions.

However, not Jinghan's father. He also shared some wisdom on why he decided to support his daughter. This piece of wisdom is shared in Chinese:

“因为我了解人生。
因为我了解快乐。

人生的目的是什么?是要快乐。

不同的人从不同的东西找到快乐。有的是钱,有的是家庭,有的是宗教...

身为父母,我们要的是什么呢?是要孩子快乐。

每个宗教所熏陶的都是好的。

如果你告诉我这个宗教能给你快乐,我阻止你干吗?”

Roughly translated:

“Because I understand life.
Because I understand the pursuit of happiness.

What’s the purpose of life? To seek happiness.

Different people find happiness in different things. Some in wealth, some in family, some in religion...

As parents, what do we want most? For our children to be happy.

Every religion teaches good.

If you were to tell me that this religion makes you happy, why should I stop you?”

At the end of the day, the father's sole concern was his daughter's happiness. We have a lot to learn from this father. Kudos to him!

People would normally tie their dead pets in a garbage bag and toss it in the rubbish chute. But for those who find it hard to do that, they bring the carcass to a crematorium. We are not permitted to bury dead animals on public grounds in Singapore.

A netter happened across a dead cat disposed together with it's litter along the bank of Sungei Api Api next to Blk 514 Pasir Ris St 52. It is not known if the cat was disposed while it was still sickly and alive or already dead. The netter has urged fellow Singaporeans to contact her or AVA if they have any information on the owner.

An NUS Law graduate had been strike off the rolls after she was found out doctoring her grades to apply for jobs. Jaya Anil Kumar had doctored her NUS degree certificate and transcripts using Microsoft Paint to make it look like she had way better grades than her actual ones.

She had graduated from NUS in 2011 with Second Class Lower Honours, and was called to the Bar in 2012. In 2013, while applying to join the Legal Service Commision, she falsified her grades. She actually managed to score an interview with the falsified grades, but failed to land a job. In 2016, she tried again, with the same falsified degree and transcripts. During the interview process, the interviewer at the Commission had asked for her consent to request her class and percentile ranking from NUS. She refused flatly. This aroused suspicions, and her deception was eventually found out.

For her acts, she had already been fined $10,000 in January 2018 for falsifying her documents, and fined another $5,000 in costs and disbursements to the Law Society. She was also struck off from the roll.
