Chua Tiong Tiong, better known as Ah Long San, arguably Singapore's most notorious loan shark who cultivated a network of cops to help in his multi-million illegal moneylending syndicate, died on Monday (Aug 27) morning. It was reported that Chua, 62, had suffered a heart attack while alone in his parked car.

The car was parked along the roadside in Geylang, where Chua had operated his loansharking business in the 1990s. He was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital around 9am. It was not reported if Chua was there for business matters, or just to relieve memories of his loan sharking days operating out of Geylang.

The case has been classified as unnatural death and police investigations are ongoing. Latest checks on the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority showed that Chua was the owner of a karaoke lounge since October 2012.

Better known by his nickname which means "Mr Loan Shark", Ah Long San ran a multi-million-dollar syndicate that spread far and wide, and included his own brother Chua Tiong Chye, some 40 runners, and more than 1,000 borrowers. The syndicate raked in about $500,000 a month, and was believed to be one of the biggest operations at that time. Ah Long San was able to evade arrest and detection for over a decade through the network of officers in the police force whom he depended on for information and tip-offs.

He had reportedly spent years cultivating police officers, entertaining them at nightclubs, paying for their holidays and even sponsoring the studies of an officer overseas, in exchange for a heads up when police conducted raids.

Chua was eventually jailed in 2001, and with him, ten police officers, among them an assistant superintendent and three inspectors, were also jailed as a result of the corruption scandal.

After many many years of school kids heading a football when playing in school during their PE time, during football training, during football matches and just during play time in general, some brain specialist have come up with a motherhood statement urging authorities to bar kids from heading a football as it may cause brain damage.

And this was picked up in a forum letter written to ST by a local parent, scared that his two lower primary school sons are in danger of brain damage, urging MOE to havev a blanket ban on heading a football. Decades of primary school kids have been heading a football, has there really been any one who sufferred brain damage? And now footballs are supposed to be lighter as well!

The parent who wrote this obviuously know nuts about football and the game itself. If he is so scared his sons get brain damaged, maybe he should just take his kids out of football, and let them play on their playstations instead, and become a wuss just like he is.

But then again, maybe this is true. This parent must have headed a football millions of times, for his brain is so damaged to even have suggested for MOE to ban heading a football. See who got brain damage now.

Remember the Parrot Man? He was arrested by the police a few days ago for being a nuisance at Orchard Rd. He reportedly verbally abused a busker who told him to lower his volume.

If you pity seeing a wheelchair-bound, nose-less old man getting arrested, you don't have to. The Parrot Man (Zeng Guo Yuan) already has a bad reputation for constantly blasting loud music to disrupt other people's performances. On purpose. He will pressure passerbys to give him money along the stretch of road that is designated for buskers with licences.

Some were nice enough to tolerate him but he has gone too far this time by verbally abusing one of them. A Singaporean busker who has had enough took to Facebook to vent his frustration:

"This parrot man is a nuisance of the highest order.

He has zero regards for members of the public, let alone buskers, with his super loud blasting of his music wherever he goes.

Yes, blasting, for those who have never seen him in action before.

It is his modus operandi to enhance his begging efforts, along with his placards that smack of nothing less than preying on the sympathy of the public.

Lest anyone has any pity for him, hear this.

How many times did he not give a hoot to buskers who were already performing and who were at their spot before him and just parked himself beside them?

How many times did he rob buskers of their ambience to perform with his very inconsiderate behaviour?

Many, I tell you.

And I for one, am glad that the police were bold enough to arrest him cos in the eyes of people who don't know head nor tail, the police may be misconstrued as bullying a handicapped man.

We all know, right, the less-advantaged always win...

In this case, he is the REAL bully."

So, no need to pity him. It's amazing how he could run as an independent candidate in the past but thank goodness he didn't win. We do not have an outstanding government but we definitely do not need more people like him who lack good character. After all, reputation is temporary, character is permanent.

A video has emerged showing foreign workers at a Singapore worksite run by Lian Beng Construction Pte Ltd. According to various online sources, some speculated that the location at the Defu Substation undergoing construction. From the video, 4 constructions workers held up pieces of paper which stated "I WANT MY SALARY" in chinese, while scores of other workers were seen seated on the ground. It is unclear if the workers seated were part of the protest and were on strike while the video was filmed.

Another image then shows 4 workers standing in from the the worksite's main gate, holding up their placards carrying the same message "I WANT MY SALARY". The Ministry of Manpower has not made a statement on the incident. Although the worksite is run by the publicly listed Lian Beng Construction Pte Ltd, netizens were quick to point out that these workers may belong to sub-contractors who defaulted on their salary payments and Lian Beng should not be blamed at this point of time.

Others however disagreed and said that as the main contractor of the project, it is Lian Beng's responsibility to ensure all workers get paid their salaries on time even though they may be employed by the sub-contractors.

Regardless of who is ultimately responsible, it is still shocking that in this day and age in ultra-rich Singapore, we have cheap labourers in Singapore who do not get paid their salaries on time. These people depend on their salaries to raise their families back home, the least business owners in Singapore could do is to make sure they be prompt in their salary payments.

Weekend = time to havoc and break rules? A bunch of 6 to 7 teenagers were caught riding their escooters on the road just a few days ago. They were clearly speeding from Serangoon to Kovan, occupying the second lane.

The driver who witnessed this firmly told them to get off the roads but before he knew it, the teenagers got unhappy and started chasing him down. The poor driver had to make a detour to lose them before going back home again.

Why are these youngsters so defiant? Aren't they tarnishing the reputation of other law abiding riders? Will the authorities do something about this?

On Sunday morning, a Bedok resident caught the owner of SKU607J washing his car with the emergency fire hose reel at block 772A Bedok Reservoir Road. The resident was shocked by what he saw and exclaimed in that in his 19 years of living in the estate, never has he ever seen a person use the EMERGENCY hose in this irresponsible manner. Not only did the man made the entire carpark floor wet, the cars parked nearby ended up wet as well.

When the resident told the car owner that using the fire hose reel for his car washing was not right, he was duly ignored and the man just carried on washing his vehicle.
