Colors: Blue Color

Many of us often try hard to meet the expectations of our family members, especially our parents, no matter how high their expectations may be, to avoid disappointing them. But what if you've done your best and yet they decide to start calling names and denying you of any inheritance in the future (even though you didn't ask for any money).

This was what happened to a NSF who made an anonymous confession to NUSWhisper's page.

The NSF was posted to be a logistics quartermaster and will be going through his specialist graduation parade soon. However, the parents were utterly disappointed with him for not getting into what they term as "hero" vocations.

The four hero vocations are:

Guards,
Commandos,
Officer Cadet School - OCS (Not really a vocation but status symbol nonetheless) and
Naval Diving Unit

The NSF was called a "Gu niang" (sissy, girly) and was not given any of the emotional support which he was given before he got his vocation. The parents even greet him with hostility when he gets home from a day in camp. His parents have also been asking him to lie about his vocation at family gatherings to not bring embarrassment to the family as he is not living up to the standards to the family.

The NSF also mentioned that the parents once said that he would not be getting any inheritance in the future

"because a “姑娘” does not need money as she is not the breadwinner of the family. "

even though he has never asked nor pried about money and the family inheritance, which broke the NSF's heart.

He ended the post saying that his parents will not be attending his specialist graduation parade and that they really broke his hearts. He urged other future parents to not do this to their children.

Are the parents being fair to him? As far as we know, we don't even get to choose our vocations in the army.

Hi everyone, I’m currently serving NS but I’ve been accepted to NUS so i hope it’s okay if i post my experience on toxic masculinity here. (Don’t worry it’s not an army-bashing post)

My parents, like most love me very much. They would always check up on my studies, ask if i need money when going out and gave their 110% to support me when enlisting (i.e calling me at night, picking me up from Pasir Ris, buying me snacks for the week). However, they had a shortcoming which only manifested itself after i POP-ed - Elitism.

I didn’t perform very well for my BMT which meant that i got a posting in a non-combat vocation, specifically a logistics quartermaster. So incase you weren’t aware, there are the 4 perceived “Hero” vocations that are seen as the most elite in the eyes of my parents - Guards, CDO, OCS(Not rly a vocation but status symbol nonetheless , NDU). When my parents were always going on about how I have to go to a “Hero” vocation and were absolutely crestfallen when they had heard about my posting. Connections were called and requests were written to various places (All behind my back).

And when those efforts proved fruitless, it was when i realised how toxic they could be when it came to my masculinity. I was berated for being in a 姑娘 vocation which was meant for “useless” people. They encouraged me to lie during family gatherings to avoid embarrassment. I had stopped receiving emotional support from them (Calls, rides, a simple “how was your day”). On days were i had offs or half days, i would be greeted with a “why are you home so early” rather than a welcome home. They would compare me with my cousins and ask why I was not able to live up to the standards of the family.

One time they said that i would not get any inheritance from them because a “姑娘” does not need money as she is not the breadwinner of the family. That last one really hit close to home as i have never, nor will i ever ask and pry about money let alone family inheritance so for them to think that I was eyeing their money was really heartbreaking to me.

They recently informed me that they won’t be attending my specialist graduation parade which was really what drove me to craft this post. Mum, Dad I love you both and should the time come, I would die for you. Is that not enough to constitute what a “man” should be.

Anyway I’m not here to ask for advice, I’m dealing with it on my own. I just wanted to let future parents know what I’m going through and should you have a son in the near future, I hope you guys won’t adopt the same mindset as my parents. It really hurts.

Believe it or not, one e-scooter siao's modified e-scooter did go to 150kmh on Singapore roads!

To be precise, some say that the e-scooter was travelling along Tanah Merah Coast Road at night. Unfortunately, the viral video which was uploaded by Tune Extreme, claims to be a one-stop home-based shop for upgrading and modification of personal mobility devices (PMD), has already been removed.

Fret not.

We have a clip from YouTube where a Dualtron Ultra goes up to about 150kmh in Desaru. In the video description, it says that the scooter is custom built and tuned by Synergy Scooters, a shop based in Singapore that is specialised in custom build ups for performance and professional services.

Another clip that shows a scooter going up to 120kmh while group riding,

As a reminder, according to Singapore law enforced by the LTA:

Under the Active Mobility Act, PMDs cannot weigh more than 20kg , be wider than 70cm, and move faster than 25kmh.

It is illegal to alter a PMD to be non-compliant for use on public paths. First-time offenders can be fined up to $5,000, jailed for up to three months, or both.

Ride safe!

A customer was mortified to see that eggs that she bought from NTUC FairPrice's online platform contained maggots.

Her purchases were delivered on 11 July. This was when she noticed that the plastic containing the eggs were wet. She however attributed this to the other frozen items.

It was only when she opened the bag that the stenched hit her and she realied that the white things were maggots. This made her feel like vomitting.

The customer has already lodged a complaint with NTUC FairPrice but is sharing her experience for the benefit of others.

Be careful when making perishable purchases, ensure that they are in good condition or are not past the expiry date.

singpost

Bryan was shocked to know that his car key could fall out of his condo's mailbox on its own when Singpost's postman open his mailbox to deliver letters.

To explain why his car key is in the mailbox, Bryan claimed that his car's workshop's staff has dropped it in this mailbox after the workshop was done with servicing his car. The only people who have access to his mailbox are, his wife, Singpost and himself.

In his disbelief, Bryan said:

So naturally I called Singpost, who told me they would get back to me within 3 working days, but I was obviously worried that whoever tool my key would come back and take my car from my condo in the middle of the night, so I proceeded to buy a steering lock whilst waiting for reply from Singpost. 3 days later, the mailman & Singpost told me that my key "Fell" out of my letterbox as the mailman was delivering letters.

It is still shocking to know that the postman brought Bryan's car key which has dropped out of his mailbox on its own to SIngpost instead of returning it to the condo's lost & found office.

Is this the kind of standard and levels that Singpost, our national mail carrier? Will you still trust Singpost?

Good news to all the delivery food riders out there. Doesn't matter if you are full time or part time delivery rider or what company you are working for! This applies to all of you (:

According to the Facebook page of Zainal Bin Sapari, he informed that HDB has clarified that motorcycle delivery riders can park at HDB loading and unloading for quick deliveries.

In the posting he wrote,

"HDB has clarified that motorcycle delivery riders can park at HDB loading and unloading for quick deliveries.

MOTORCYCLE OWNERS BEING SUMMONED FOR ILLEGAL PARKING AT CARPARKS OR SERVICE ROADS

Mr Zainal Sapari asked the Minister for National Development (a) whether there has been an increasing trend of motorcycle owners being summoned for illegal parking at carparks or service roads in the last three years; and (b) whether HDB will consider providing designated motorcycle parking lots next to the loading and unloading bays, near HDB flats, to allow short-term parking for delivery riders given the increasing trend of home deliveries.

Mr Lawrence Wong: In 2016, 2017 and 2018, the number of parking offence notices issued to motorcyclists for illegal parking at HDB estates was around 25,000, 28,000 and 21,000 respectively. There is no clear trend of an increase.

Motorcyclists making home deliveries should use the loading and unloading bays which are intended for such quick loading and unloading activities. There is therefore no need to provide additional motorcycle lots to cater to such uses."

Wonder if delivery riders have a legal spot to park and wait for their order eg at shopping malls, shops.

Because you know Singaporeans like to complain right?

The annual remuneration of the CEO of Temasek Holdings, Ho Ching, has never been revealed to the public. Singaporeans have always speculated her remuneration and guessed that it would be no small sum.

Netizen Philip Ang once wrote on his blog "Although Temasek Holdings manages our state reserves and should be transparent, the PAP government has legislated senior management executives’ remuneration state secret”.

On a post dated 10 July 2019, Lee Hsien Yang, brother in law of Ho Ching, questioned the secrecy of Ho Ching's salary. Other members of the opposition such as Lim Tean also started questioning the secrecy.

From speculations, Ho Ching would not be paid lesser than CEOs under her charge. The highest paid GLC CEO was Piyush Gupta of DBS Group who took home $10.3 million last year.

According to Philip Ang's blog, Charles Goodyear was hired to be CEO of Temasek Holdings in 2009 when he was already earning a salary of $54 million at BHP Billton. Ang then said, “Logically, Charles must have been offered more than his $54 million salary to quit BHP Billiton”.

From these information we have, we can only make a small guess on how much money Ho Ching is currently earning. One thing is for sure, according to Goh Chok Tong, she would definitely not be mediocre and we will probably not be able to know her salary anytime soon.
