top parking

A photo of the parking charges to park at Dawson Place's Loading & Unloading Bay is making its rounds online.

The photo stated that the new parking charges kicked in on 6 July 2019.

The charges below:
- First 15 minutes: $0
- Next half hour: $2
- Subsequent half hour: $4

No wonder so expensive la because this parking space is managed by TOP parking, everything so TOP, so ATAS, that's why expensive mah!

A family was so impressed by a staff from Singapore General Hospital (SGH) that they wrote to SGH to commend her. And why wouldn't they?

Their elderly father had lost the strength in his legs, resulting in him getting stranded on an overhead bridge at Chinatown.

While a few concerned people tried to assist, only the said staff, Mdm Isvari N Veloo, had the expertise and knowledge to determine the best course of action.

With Md Isvari's guidance, and the help of several passers-by, they managed to get their father off the bridge. The father was eventually sent home safely.

The whole ordeal took about 3hrs.

We see so many cases of netizens raging against the poor treatment they received at the hands of healthcare workers.

Mdm Isvari is a different breed. She is the embodiment of a healthcare worker with not only the skills, but also the heart and EQ.

Thnk you Mdm Isvari. For SGH's sake, we hope there are more out there like you.

A redditporean, u/redditporean (username checks out) posted on the Singapore subreddit regarding an experience he had today. He was on a GrabShare ride and realised that the driver had some kind of deformity in both of his hands.

Redditporean did not make any complaints but wonders if it is actually safe for him to be driving on our roads. The age old question comes back, should we fear for the safety of the masses to let him make ends meet? Or should we just let it be? The job market out there is not good even for our local university students. How can a uncle with deformed hands hold up in our current climate? What do you think?

While we feel for this uncle, he must have some great motivation to carry on working to make ends meet in his situation. Kudos!

Strong willed Grab Uncle with deformed hands

I was waiting for my Grabshare today and the driver missed a turn to come to my lane and took a long detour to pick me up, I suspected he did so to get another GrabShare match before picking me up, but when he arrived I saw that both his hands have some kind of deformity and he can barely hold the steering with either of his hands, my heart melted immediately and I didn't utter a word to complain. I know he must be doing this job to make ends meet but it also raises a question if it's safe for him and his passengers to drive like this. It would be unfair to say that there was any issue with his driving in my journey but I could see how he struggled to use the steering while taking longer turns or U-turns or use the phone's touch screen for navigation. God forbid but if someday he requires to do quick steering manuever to dodge a vehicle he might not be able to do so soon enough.

P.S. This post is not a complain just wanted to share about this strong willed uncle

Human rights lawyer M Ravi took to Facebook to update on the case of Suriia Das and his Wife Sarojini, who is suffering from 4th stage ovarian cancer. You can read more about their case here:

CPF Board Denies Husband From Using CPF Funds For Cancer Treatment For Wife

M Ravi mentioned that his team has since filed in the high court the case of Suria who is seeking a relief from the court for a Mandatory Order to compel the CPF Board to allow him to transfer to his wife, portion of his CPF funds to her. Suriia also seeks a Declaration from the court that the CPF Board's policy made pursuant to Section 18D of the CPF Act is unlawful and unconstitutional insofar as it prohibits the transfer of funds from Suriia's ordinary and special accounts to his wife Sarojini's medisave account.

While M Ravi and his team are doing this case pro bono, they are still seeking for donations to help with the medical fees. If you feel like doing so the link is: https://www.simplygiving.com/appeal/help-me-to-save-my-wife-life-who-is-suffering?fbclid=IwAR0ibYZqiTyQcd8nBZ99p9L9Ype5P-Oj187pukqQw7nNuutOvD8ZNcfvJIs

The simplygiving page has since gathered a total of S$2 937 out of a target of $50,000. We hope that Suriia Das and his wife will be able to get that much needed treatment and help.

If you have not already known, SMRT has been operating at a loss for the past year.

They reportedly made business losses of $86 million, which translates to around $235,000/day in 2018.

In a facebook post, Joe Ng said that he managed to take a look at both SBS's and SMRT's annual report to find out if the news of the business losses were true.

He checked the SBS 2018 annual report (which can be found at the SBS's website) and saw that the company was making profit.

Next he looked at SMRT 2016 annual report because the reports for 2017 and 2018 could not be found publicly aka missing in SMRT's website. In the 2016 annual report, SMRT made profit.

"I have actually looked at both SBS 2018 annual report and SMRT 2016 annual report (cannot find any annual report for 2017, 2018), both also making profits."

This was the photo posted by Joe.

You can check for yourselves if you are curious about this too since such reports are publicly available online.

SMRT's 2018 Annual Report has yet to be released on their website for public eyes.

Someone said that perhaps we won't get to see the annual report of the years where there were losses declared.

What do you think?

What should be a fun day out watching a movie turned out to be a horrific incident for this boy when his whole body was bitten by bugs from cinema's seats.

According to his mother, Lee:

Result after my boy watched the movie today at westmall cinema. Whole body redness and itchy from the bugs bite.... Screen 3, row B5 seating

Beware of bugs from cinema halls at Westmall. Anyone else been bitten before at Westmall's cinema or elsewhere? What's cinemas standard procedure to clean their halls to ensure that there are no bugs?
